Ealy Thoughts -CW Edition

It's this time of year again. Networks are gathered and make decisions about which shows will return, which shows will say adios! and which pilots will be greenlighted.
I'm gonna start this series of posts with my early thoughts about The CW's 2010-2011 schedule.
Yesterday the network announced the pick up of 5 returning shows including flagship drama "The Vampire Diaries", Monday's duo, "9O21O" & "Gossip Girl", fan favorite "Supernatural" and long running reality series "America's Next Top Model". Missing the list, newbies "Nikita" and struggling "Hellcats" and veteran "One Tree Hill". (FYI: "Smallville" is ending this season, "Life Unexpected" is long go & "Shedding For The Wedding" is already on the tv graveyard).

First of all The CW programs only 10 hours per week. They already have the 5 hours with the five series renewd and i think that they'll pick up 2-3 new shows for fall.Thats leaves 2-3 hours.News about One Tree Hill's stars re-signing their contracts for a ninth season, break out this week. Hellcats, with last week's 0.5 rating in adults 18-49 is probably a goner. That leaves Nikita. The drama has been struggling but its still a decent performer in adults 18-49 (and in total viewers which doesnt matter of course).

(Ok, first of all CW will NEVER premiere a new show on Friday.)

So here my thoughts

MON
8pm The Secret Circle
9pm Gossip Gril

TSC script seems a very female-ish. Witches, romance, not too dark. CW used to have a success with female driven shows on Mondays back in 2008 with OTH/GG pairing. Maybe they can have it again. If TSC premieres big it’ll help declining Gossip Girl too.

TUE
8pm 9O21O
9pm ANTM

Im really supriced about last night’s 90210's rating. It actually tied Smallville's & Supernatural's rtg (0.9) -take that soap haters!! :) Yeah i know with Glee/NCIS & whatever ABC puts there, its one of the most competitive slots but its a show that survived 4 seasons with mediocre ratings. And with new executive replacing Dawn Ostroff i dont see S5.
ANTM was waaaaay down this spring. Clearly Wednesday reality competition (Survivor/American Idol) really hurts it. Tues 9pm is not as hard as 8pm,Plus the All stars version may get some old fans back to the show.

WED
8pm NIKITA
9pm AWAKENING

I’m optimistic than NKT will get renewed, Its the only CW show that can grow in the future. After all it has all this procedural elements. Plus It repeats really strong, especacially when they placed encores in this timeslot back in January. (2mil if i remember right)
AWAKENING could be cw’s breakout hit like TVD next season. Zombies are hot these days (AMC’s The Walking Dead, Resident Evil Afterlife etc).

THURSDAY
8pm The Vampire Diaries
9pm Heavely/ Cooper & Stone

Premiering TSC after TVD would make sense (Kevin Williamson/ same author) but it’ll have to go against Greys Anatomy which is still a beast with young females (18-34,w18-49). So they could instead place here Heavenly or Cooper & Stone (which according to Nelie Andreeva are the 2 fav pilots FOR NOW). I’d prefer Heavenly. Love legal shows and its time for Lauren Cohan to shine.

FRIDAYS
8pm One Tree Hill
9pm Supernatural

Nikita on Fridays? WRONG! They need to try to grow its audience.
But OTH on fridays make sense. This will def be the final season so they need to promote it ala Smallville. Supernatural is doing a terrific show on Fri @ 9!

No matter what they do i hope they have again 10 hour of original programming and at least one drama for midseason.
As for HELLCATS i blame the producers. The pilot had potential but next episodes was just blahh, without serious plot and interesting storylines. (only the Febraury episodes were kinda strong)! So they should cancel it. At the other hand NKT is creatively superb!![that's the fan speaking ]
